Event Details

What to do when we don’t know what to do? What happens when the stories we once trusted no longer give us comfort? In this presentation, psychiatrist (Arg), psychotherapist, and author Dr. Carlos A. Raimundo examines how the brain, culture, and emotions shape belief—and what endures when those beliefs collapse. Where do we turn in moments of emptiness and devastation that push us beyond what we know? How Ayaan Hirsi Ali embraced Christianity after being part of an Atheist team with Richard Dawkins, and how Dan Baker, a fervent Evangelical Christian, became a passionate advocate of atheism. Carlos will address: Why do humans need to believe? Why does the brain seek comfort over truth? What drives us to cling to certainty, and what happens when it slips away? Why is it so hard to change beliefs? Why is it so difficult to talk with those of different beliefs? As well as questions from the audience. This is not a debate but an invitation to wonder. A chance to walk together through questions of faith, truth-seeking, meaning, and identity—whether you see yourself as a believer, an agnostic, a sceptic, an atheist, or a seeker. Join us as Dr. Raimundo shares his journey from fundamentalism to freedom, from certainty to curiosity, offering insights woven from neuroscience, philosophy, and lived experience.
